Chordoma

Abstract
A 61 year-old laborer with sacro-coccygeal chordoma is reported.
The patient developed the typical syndrome of sacro-coccygeal chordoma, i.e. local swelling, tenderness, neuralgic pain in lower extremities, fecal and urinary disturbances etc. together with the typical findings of destructive changes of sacrum and coccyx by X-ray, a palpable mass in the same region, together with positive laboratory findings.
The history of the disease was of about one year¢¥s duration prior to visiting the National Medical Center. Shortly after admission, a radical curettage of the tumor was performed. The post-operative period was uneventful. The operative wound closed in two months after the operation. His general condition greatly improved, and both local pain and neuralgic pain in both lower extremities disappeared shortly after the operation. Also fortunately there was no evidence of nerve damage from the operation. The histological study of the tumor showed fairly typical chordoma findings. The follow-up study of the case is limited to two months. X-ray irradiation was not given.
